Is it superstition? Can it be tested? What is the difference between knowing your fate and accepting it?

Ten questions, answered

十问十答
01Is metaphysics statistics or superstition? Is there any scientific basis?

Modern science advances by studying combinations of values and parameters, then distilling objective regularities once they survive large-scale, repeatable verification. Chinese metaphysics carries a similar empirical impulse — throughout its history it has been continually tested and corrected against experience.

But a human life cannot be re-run under controlled conditions the way an experiment can. So metaphysics maps the broad direction of a trend; how the story actually completes itself will still shift with environment and personal choice.

02So many people share the same birth year, month, day and hour. Why are their lives so different?

Seeds from the same tree fall in different places. What is it that then makes them grow at different rates, into different shapes?

Once you genuinely grasp the causes governing where a seed lands and what it meets there, this question answers itself.

03When a reading feels accurate, is that just the Barnum effect — statements anyone could claim?

The way to tell them apart is to ask whether what you heard is a psychological trait common to everyone, or a specific event attached to one individual. Compare two kinds of statement:

Generic psychological description: You often feel your talent is underrated, you carry a quiet loneliness of not being understood, you need to work out what you really want. — This is broad psychology, not the substance of a chart reading.

Specific event prediction: In 2025 you are prone to a financial loss, and the cause will involve a woman. — This is a prediction anchored to a particular time and matter. The story can unfold in several ways, but the core direction, a loss triggered through a woman, is concrete and falsifiable.

04Why can two practitioners read the same chart and reach opposite conclusions?

Usually one of three things is happening:

  • Limited competence — you may be dealing with someone without real training, leaning on cold reading and social cues to stay vague, rather than actually working the system to derive specific events.
  • Difference in emphasis — two readers weight the same chart differently. Take self-employment on a chart with strong Authority and weak Wealth: one reader focuses on the strong Authority and sees a busy, active operation; the other focuses on the weak Wealth and sees thin income or outright losses. To the client, those sound like opposite verdicts.
  • Operational error — a mis-recorded birth hour, a botched true solar time conversion, or plain carelessness means one of them cast the wrong chart to begin with.
05Zi Wei Dou Shu, Bazi, astrology, tarot — which is most accurate? Can they cross-check each other?

Each system has its own instrument character and its own boundaries of application. But fundamentally, so long as the practitioner has genuinely mastered the logic of whichever system they work in — Bazi, Zi Wei, Western astrology or tarot — readings on one and the same specific matter will converge on essentially the same core direction.

06Can a reading be verified? Is there a standard for being wrong?

Even modern science, for all its rigour, revises and overturns its own theories. An ancient empirical system is no different.

Accuracy here can be tested, and the standard is normally a review of the broad direction of established past facts: if the system can correctly call the major events that have already happened, it is running properly.

What it cannot do is reproduce every detail of the story. What a chart reveals is trend and direction, not absolute fate — choice and environment continue to shape the detail in real time.

07Does this only work for Chinese people? Is a Zi Wei chart valid for a foreigner?

What is a metaphysical system, fundamentally? It is a tool for deriving and decomposing the trajectory of a living entity through time and space. Its object is any individual with a life pattern — it is not bound to a race, a nationality or a cultural label.

A non-Chinese person can be read on exactly the same terms.

08If fate is fixed, does effort still mean anything?

An apple seed is determined by its DNA to become an apple tree and nothing else. It has no will of its own; it can only receive what comes.

A human being has the capacity to choose. That is the whole of the difference.

09If knowing the outcome plants a suggestion in my mind, do I end up causing it myself?

In this system, an event arising at a particular point in time has a fixed broad direction. Even if you knew nothing in advance, that direction would still arrive on schedule.

What people call the outcome, however, is usually a script they have written in their own head from what they now know. Whether suggestion hardens into reality depends on one thing: once you know the direction, do you let the mind stir and act on it.

10What is the difference between knowing your fate and accepting it?

Most of us have not even reached the first stage. People follow whatever society rewards, chasing the industry the statistics call hottest or the standard it calls most likely to succeed. Watching the trend has its place — but every person runs on their own trajectory, so how could the answer be the same for everyone?

Knowing means seeing clearly what kind of living thing you are and what your core makeup is. If you are a fish, you should understand that your time goes into swimming technique and stamina, not into following the crowd up a tree.

Accepting is what comes after: having seen that you are a fish, you get into the water willingly and put in the work.

To know is to identify your own lane. To accept is to anchor there and fully take on the work that belongs to you.
